Why Our E-Cycling Donation Policy Is in Place

At St. Vincent de Paul of Washington County, our e-cycling donation policies are in place to protect the safety of our staff, volunteers, customers, and the environment while ensuring electronics are handled responsibly and in compliance with recycling regulations.

Electronic devices often contain hazardous materials, sensitive components, and batteries that require specialized handling, storage, transportation, and disposal procedures. Certain items may pose fire risks, environmental hazards, or safety concerns if they are damaged, outdated, or improperly recycled. Because of this, not all electronics can be accepted through our donation program.

In addition, many electronic items require certified recycling processes that involve disposal and processing fees. These costs can quickly add up and impact the resources available for our mission and community assistance programs. By limiting the types of electronics we accept and charging fees for certain items, we are able to responsibly manage recycling costs while continuing to serve local individuals and families in need.
Our policies also help ensure that usable electronics are safely recycled or reused whenever possible, reducing environmental waste and supporting sustainability efforts within our community.

We appreciate the understanding and cooperation of our donors as we work to responsibly manage electronic recycling while continuing our mission of serving others with dignity and respect.
