Your Gently Used Donations Make a Difference

Donation Policy

We always appreciate the generosity of our donors. Sometimes it is necessary to say no to some items. Either due to current government regulations or the lack of need for certain items along with the high cost of recycling. The list below will help you with items we accept and items we cannot accept.

donation INSPECTION
Picture
To ensure the safety and quality of the items we provide to our community, all donated goods need to be carefully inspected before being accepted or placed for resale. This process helps us confirm that items are clean, functional, and safe to use.
Inspection also allows us to identify items that may be damaged, unsafe, or not suitable for resale. By doing so, we protect our customers, support the dignity of those we serve, and maintain the integrity of our mission.
ITEM Assembly Required
Picture

For safety and quality assurance, all items must be fully assembled at the time of donation. This allows our team to properly inspect each item for stability, structural integrity, and overall condition before it is accepted.
Assembled items helps us identify any missing parts, damage, or safety concerns that may not be visible when items are disassembled. It also ensures that the piece is complete and ready for resale, saving time during processing and helping us maintain a safe environment for our staff, volunteers, and customers.
Medical Equipment Donation Policy
Picture
For safety, liability, and regulatory reasons, we are unable to accept medical equipment donations. Many medical items require specialized inspection, certification, or sanitation standards to ensure they are safe for reuse, and we are not equipped to verify or guarantee that these requirements have been met.
In addition, some medical equipment is intended for single-patient use or may be subject to health regulations that restrict resale or redistribution. To protect the health and safety of our customers and community, we must decline these items.
We appreciate your understanding and encourage you to explore appropriate medical donation programs or licensed organizations that are able to properly handle these types of items.
Why These Policies Are in Place
These policies are in place to ensure the safety of our staff, volunteers, and the community we serve. By carefully reviewing and managing donations, we help prevent the acceptance of items that could pose health hazards, safety risks, or operational challenges.

Many donated items are handled, tested, and displayed before reaching our customers, so it is important that everything meets basic safety and quality standards. These guidelines also help create a safe working environment during donation drop-off, sorting, and processing.

We appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we work to keep everyone safe while continuing to support our mission and serve our community.
Donation disclaimer
To ensure the safety of our staff and volunteers, the quality of items offered in our stores, and the efficient use of our space, some donations may require manager approval before acceptance. Items that are oversized, heavily worn, non-working, soiled, or otherwise unsuitable for resale may be declined at the discretion of management.

To ensure the safety and quality of items we provide to the community,
St. Vincent de Paul of Washington County reserves the right to decline donations.

Why Condition Matters:

At St. Vincent de Paul, we believe everyone deserves to shop with dignity. That's why we ask that all donated items be clean, gently used, and in good working condition.

When items arrive torn, stained, broken, or unsafe, we can’t place them on our sales floor—and unfortunately, we then must pay for disposal. This takes valuable time and resources away from our mission of helping neighbors in need.

By donating quality items, you're not only supporting a more respectful shopping experience for our customers—you’re also helping us stretch every dollar further in service to our community.

If you wouldn’t give it to a friend, please don’t give it to us.

Thank you for helping us make the most of your generosity.
Make a Financial Donation
While our stores and volunteers provide vital support, the needs in our community continue to grow—often beyond what product donations or program revenue can cover. Financial gifts allow us to bridge that gap and respond quickly, compassionately, and effectively when someone is facing hardship.

How to donate - Gently used items

Our Slinger, West Bend, and Hartford store have an outdoor drive-through bay where our friendly staff will gladly accept your generous donations.
MORE WAYS TO GIVE
Your generosity extends far beyond gently used goods. St. Vincent de Paul of Washington County welcomes a variety of meaningful contributions that support our programs and help us serve more neighbors in need.
